How to fly from Chisinau to Verona

Two airlines fly from Chisinau airport to Verona: FlyOne and Wizz Air. Both carriers operate direct flights, so no connection is needed: the plane departs from Chisinau and lands right at Verona airport. In total there are about 3 direct flights a week, so you can usually find a departure date without paying much extra.

Airline Flight frequency Flight time Flight type
Wizz Air 2 times a week about 2h 30m Direct, no layovers
FlyOne once a week about 2h 30m Direct, no layovers

If there's no convenient date for a direct flight, you can consider a connecting option, for example via Bucharest. This is usually longer, but it widens your choice of dates and can sometimes be cheaper, especially if you book in advance.

How much a ticket costs and when it's best to fly

Chisinau - Verona tickets start from €33 one way. The cheapest time to fly is from October to December, while in May, June and August prices rise noticeably due to the high tourist season and, in June, the start of Verona's opera festival. If your travel dates are flexible, the difference between a "cheap" and an "expensive" month can be €15-20 per one-way ticket, so it's worth checking the monthly price table above and, if possible, shifting your trip to the off-season.

How much it costs and how to get from Verona airport to the city

Verona airport is located about 10-12 km from the historic center, so the trip into town takes no more than half an hour.

Method Travel time Cost Details
Aerobus / Verona Airlink bus (route 199) 15-20 minutes about €6 Goes to Porta Nuova central train station, departs every 20-40 minutes, tickets can be bought from the machine at the terminal exit
Taxi 15-25 minutes from €24 to €44 Taxi rank on the ground floor of the arrivals area, price depends on time of day and traffic
Car rental 15-20 minutes from €20 a day Rental desks right in the terminal, paid parking is in place in central Verona (around €1 per hour)

The bus is the cheapest and most predictable option: it runs on a schedule and doesn't depend on traffic. A taxi is more convenient if your flight lands late at night or you have a lot of luggage.

What to know about Verona airport

Verona airport's official name is Valerio Catullo (Villafranca airport), IATA code - VRN. It combines civilian and military flights and has two terminals: a departures zone and an arrivals zone. There are also Tax Free desks here (Maccorp Forexchange and Ticket Office) for VAT refunds on purchases made in Italy. Real-time departure and arrival schedules can be checked on the airport's official website.

Do you need a visa and a passport

Citizens of Moldova don't need a visa for Italy. A visa-free regime with the Schengen area has been in place since 2014: you can stay in Italy and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Mandatory requirement: a biometric passport valid for at least 3 more months after your planned return date. A domestic ID card is not valid for travel. At the border you may also be asked about the purpose of your visit and to confirm you have sufficient funds for the trip, roughly calculated at €50 per day of stay, so it's worth keeping your hotel booking and return ticket on hand.

How much money to bring to Verona

Approximate on-the-ground expenses:

  • Dinner for two at a regular trattoria: about €38
  • Dinner for two at a restaurant with appetizers, wine and dessert: about €68
  • A bottle of good local wine at a shop: from €10
  • Valpolicella wine tasting with a winery tour: from €25 to €55 per person

You can pay by card almost everywhere, but in the small shops of the old town, at the Piazza delle Erbe market and in some family-run trattorias it's handy to carry a bit of cash in euros. There are plenty of ATMs both in the center and at the airport.

What to bring back from Verona and where to shop

Verona is the birthplace of pandoro: this is where, since 1909, the first pastry shop to make this Christmas cake has been operating, so a box of genuine pandoro is a logical souvenir. Among edibles, it's also worth looking at Amarone della Valpolicella wine and its lighter version, Recioto, at Soave white wine, and at Monte Veronese cheese.

For groceries and souvenirs, the easiest place to go is the market at Piazza delle Erbe: it sells vegetables, cheeses, olive oil from the shores of Lake Garda and small souvenirs by weight. If you're planning to bring wine or oil with you, it's best to ask the seller to pack the bottles for the flight right away — this will save time at the airport.
