Chisinau - Stuttgart flights: direct flights from €30
The direct flight from Chisinau to Stuttgart is operated by Wizz Air, with a flight time of about 2 hours 35 minutes. Prices start from €30, and the calendar above shows which months have cheaper tickets.

Days and times are taken from the autumn 2026 schedule. They may shift in winter, so check your date in the search before booking. A handy detail: the return flight leaves in the afternoon, so on your last day you can enjoy breakfast and get to the airport without rushing.
If there is no direct flight on your dates, there are other destinations nearby: Frankfurt, Memmingen and Basel. From each of them you can reach Stuttgart by train.
Stuttgart Airport: useful things to know
STR airport is on the southern edge of the city, about a 20-minute drive from the centre. The S-Bahn station is right beneath the terminal, so you don't have far to go. The Messe Stuttgart exhibition centre is next to the airport, which means trains and nearby hotels get crowded during major trade fairs.
- Taxis wait outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 3; the taxi rank operates around the clock.
- The SAB bus terminal is located between Flughafenstraße and Terminal 4. Regional and long-distance buses leave from there, including services to neighbouring cities.
- Customs: if you are carrying only personal belongings, use the green channel.
How to get from Stuttgart Airport to the city centre and how much it costs
From the airport to the main station (Hauptbahnhof) you need a 2-zone ticket. It is valid on both the suburban train and the U6 city line, for 3 hours in one direction, transfers included.
| Option | Destination | Travel time | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| S-Bahn S2 or S3 | Hauptbahnhof, no transfers | 27 minutes | €4.90 at the machine, €4.45 in the app |
| Stadtbahn U6 | city centre and Hauptbahnhof | about 30 minutes | same 2-zone ticket |
| Night bus N8 | Schlossplatz | about 40 minutes | same 2-zone ticket |
| Taxi | city centre | about 20 minutes without traffic | approximately €35-45 |
For most of the day, trains run every 15 minutes; at weekends during quiet hours, every 30 minutes. The U6 departs every 10 minutes, but its stop is across from the terminal, about a five-minute walk. With a heavy suitcase, it's easier to head down to the S-Bahn.
If you plan to get around the city on your first day, buy a 2-zone day ticket instead of a single: €9.80 at the machine or €8.90 in the app. It is valid until 7 a.m. the following day. From 1 September 2026, you can take up to three children aged 6 to 14 with you for free on this ticket. Tickets are sold at VVS machines and in the DB Navigator app. Taxi fares are not fixed: we have given an estimate from transport services, and the actual amount depends on traffic and your address.
Visa and documents for flying to Stuttgart
Citizens of Moldova with a biometric passport do not need a visa. Visa-free travel to the Schengen Area has been in place since 28 April 2014. The national ID card is not valid for this trip; you need a passport.
The rule is simple: no more than 90 days in any 180-day period, counting all Schengen countries together. Your passport must be valid for at least three months after departure. Since April 2026, border crossings go through the EES system: on your first entry, your fingerprints and a facial photo will be taken. Allow extra time for passport control, especially if you are booking a train to another city right after landing.
ETIAS is not required yet. There is no official launch date, and once it is announced, apply for the authorisation only on the EU portal, without intermediaries.
Money, mobile service and everyday details
The currency is the euro. Visa or Mastercard cards are accepted at hotels, supermarkets, on public transport and in most restaurants. At the market, a bakery or a beer tent at a festival, it's safer to have cash: small vendors sometimes accept only cash or local cards.
Mobile service is simpler here than in neighbouring Switzerland. Since 1 January 2026, Moldovan numbers work in roaming at domestic rates in all EU countries, Stuttgart included. Calls, SMS and data are charged on the same terms as at home, within EU roaming rules. It's best to check your plan limits with your operator before you fly.
Power sockets are the same as in Moldova, so you won't need an adapter. On Sundays almost all shops are closed; the main exceptions are shops at train stations and the airport. If you arrive on a Saturday, buy groceries for Sunday the same day.
Local transport and small expenses
| Item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single city ticket, 1 zone | €3.70 | €3.45 in the app. One journey in one direction, up to 3 hours |
| Single ticket airport - centre, 2 zones | €4.90 | €4.45 in the app |
| Day ticket, 1 zone | €7.40 | €6.90 in the app. Covers the whole city |
| Day ticket, 2 zones | €9.80 | €8.90 in the app. Handy on your arrival or departure day |
| Entry to Cannstatter Volksfest | free | You only pay for rides, food and drinks |
Transport prices are valid from 1 September 2026. A useful rule for Stuttgart: the whole city fits into a single zone. Two single tickets cost almost as much as a day ticket, so from the third journey onwards the day ticket is the better deal. We haven't included hotel or lunch prices in the table: they depend heavily on your dates, and accommodation gets noticeably more expensive during the Volksfest, the Christmas market and major trade fairs.
What to bring back from Stuttgart to Moldova
The most Stuttgart-style gift is Ritter Sport chocolate. The company was founded in 1912 in the Bad Cannstatt district, and since the 1930s it has been based in the small town of Waldenbuch, about 16 km south of Stuttgart. Next to the factory there is a chocolate exhibition and the SchokoLaden shop, where bars are sold for less than in regular stores. The shop is open every day, from 11:00 on Sundays, making it a good option for a day off when the city is closed. Nearby is the Museum Ritter, with an art collection themed around the square, a nod to the shape of the bar.
For local produce, head to the Markthalle at Dorotheenstraße 4. It's an indoor market in a 1914 Art Nouveau building with about 33 stalls on the ground floor. It is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 18:30, and on Saturday from 7:00 to 17:00. This is a good place to look for Württemberg wine: Trollinger, Lemberger or Riesling from local winemakers is rarely found in Moldova.
- Market on Marktplatz and Schillerplatz: Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 to 13:00, Saturday until 13:30. Fruit, vegetables, honey, jams and pickles from local producers.
- Flea market on Karlsplatz: every Saturday from 8:00 to 16:00. Antiques, tableware and all sorts of curious bits and pieces.
For larger purchases, it pays to claim a VAT refund. Residents of non-EU countries, including citizens of Moldova, can get the German tax back if they spend at least €50.01 in one shop on a single receipt. Ask for a Tax Free form at the till, and get it stamped by customs at Stuttgart Airport before checking in your luggage. The goods must be taken out of the EU within three months.
Moldovan customs allows you to bring in goods worth up to €430 per person duty-free if you travel by air. Alcohol allowance: 1 litre of spirits (over 22%), 2 litres of weaker drinks, 2 litres of wine and 5 litres of beer. Two bottles of Württemberg wine fit comfortably within the limit. Check the rules on customs.gov.md before your trip, as they change.
When to fly: festivals worth planning your dates around
| Dates | Event | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| 25 September - 11 October 2026 | 179th Cannstatter Volksfest at Cannstatter Wasen | One of the largest folk festivals in the world, founded in 1818. Its symbol is the 26-metre "fruit column". Family days take place on 30 September and 7 October: from noon, many rides offer discounts |
| 25 November - 23 December 2026 | Christmas market | Around 250 stalls on Schlossplatz, Marktplatz, Schillerplatz and Karlsplatz. The market is mentioned in records dating back to 1692. It is noticeably less crowded on weekdays than on Saturdays |
| 17 April - 9 May 2027 | 87th Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest | The spring version of the Volksfest on the same grounds: beer tents, rides and a fair. In 2025 it attracted around 2.2 million visitors |
| Late August - early September | Stuttgarter Weindorf | Around 30 wine arbours on Marktplatz and Schillerplatz. Local wines are served with Swabian dishes: Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, and Schupfnudeln with sauerkraut |
The easiest way to get to the Volksfest is by suburban train to Bad Cannstatt station. The organisers recommend entering the grounds via the underpass on Elwertstraße and leaving large backpacks behind: otherwise you'll have to check them into a cloakroom for €2-6. There are no direct flights on Wednesdays, so for the family day on 30 September it's easier to fly in on Tuesday.
If you have two or three free days in Stuttgart
For many people on this flight, Stuttgart means cars: it is the birthplace of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, and both brands have their own museums in the city. The centre is compact: from the Hauptbahnhof to Schlossplatz and Königstraße, the main pedestrian street, is just a few minutes' walk. For your return flight, allow about an hour to get from the centre, including the train ride and security screening.
