Flights from Italy to Chisinau

Direct flight Chisinau - Naples: the airline and where you land

The route is served only by Wizz Air. The flight takes about 2 hours 35 minutes, flights operate several times a week, usually 3-4 times, the exact days depend on the season. Unlike Milan, there's no catch with the airport here: the plane lands at Capodichino, Naples' airport, which is only 6-7 km from the city center, not in another city an hour away.

When tickets are cheapest: from €30

The price calendar shows it's cheapest to fly in March, April and July, from €30. November-February are noticeably more expensive (€51-56): this is when Naples sees high demand for Christmas and New Year trips. The most expensive month: September (€77), the end of the summer season plus the return of business activity after holidays.

The calendar swings more noticeably here than on other routes: if your dates are flexible, it's worth checking several neighboring months at once rather than focusing on just one specific date.

How to get from Naples airport to the city and how much it costs

The trip from Capodichino to the center takes 15-30 minutes depending on traffic, and you can get there three ways.

TransportTravel timeCostDetails
Alibusabout 15-20 minutesabout €5goes to Napoli Centrale (the station at Piazza Garibaldi) and the port, departs every 15-20 minutes
City bus 3Sabout 20-25 minutesabout €1.5 (a regular city ticket)cheaper than the Alibus, but with several intermediate stops
Taxiabout 15-20 minutesa fixed fare of €16-21 to the centerask for the "tariffa predeterminata" (fixed fare) right when you get in

For most people the Alibus is the most convenient option: it drops you right at the station, from where it's easy to switch to the metro or walk to a hotel in the historic center.

Capodichino airport: what's important to know

There's just one terminal, so the logistics are simple. Passport control for non-EU passengers sometimes takes 20-30 minutes if several flights arrive almost at once, so factor this in if you have a tight schedule on the arrival day.

Visa and passport for a trip to Naples

No visa is needed. Italy is part of the Schengen area, and citizens of Moldova with a biometric passport can stay there without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The rule has been in effect since April 28, 2014 and applies to tourist and business trips.

A biometric passport specifically is mandatory; a regular Moldovan ID card is not valid for entering Italy. The passport's validity must end no earlier than 3 months after the return date. At the border you're sometimes asked for a return ticket, accommodation booking and confirmation of sufficient funds for the trip.

How much money to bring to Naples

Naples is considered the most affordable major city in Italy, noticeably cheaper than Rome, Florence, and especially Milan.

Budget levelAccommodation (per night)Food (per day)Transport
Budget€20-30 for a bed in a hostel€10-15 (espresso from €1, a slice of street pizza from €3)a single city transport ticket about €1.5
Mid-range€60-90 for a room in a 3-star hotel€25-35 per personthe same city transit network, occasionally a taxi
Comfortablefrom €150 for a room in a 4-5 star hotelfrom €50 per persontaxis and private transfers

It's worth keeping in mind the usual caution for major stations and crowded tourist streets: pickpockets are active around the central station area and popular routes, so it's better to keep your bag and phone on you rather than in the open pockets of a backpack.

Where to go for a day trip: Vesuvius, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

The main practical advantage of this particular route: from Naples it's easy and cheap to reach the most recognizable spots in southern Italy, without renting a car and without staying overnight outside the city.

  • Pompeii: the Circumvesuviana suburban train from Napoli Piazza Garibaldi station (inside the Napoli Centrale building), a ticket costs about €3-4, the ride takes 35-40 minutes, get off at Pompei Scavi-Villa dei Misteri station, not just "Pompei."
  • Herculaneum: the same train, but closer, about 20 minutes from Naples, fewer tourists than Pompeii and often just as impressive.
  • Sorrento: the final stop on the same Circumvesuviana line, about 70 minutes from Naples, and from there the Amalfi Coast is right nearby.
  • Capri: a ferry from the Molo Beverello pier in the city center, the fast crossing takes about 50 minutes, a one-way ticket usually runs from €14 to €27 depending on the operator and season.

What to bring back from Naples

Limoncello, the local liqueur from the Sorrento and Amalfi coast, is sold all over Naples at fairer prices than in the tourist shops on the coast itself. For coral and cameos, rather than the souvenir stalls near the port, it's worth looking for pieces with a certificate of origin from Torre del Greco, the historic center of coral crafting.

San Gregorio Armeno street in the historic center is entirely devoted to figurines for nativity scenes (presepe), which are made by hand year-round, not just before the holidays, making them one of the few genuinely local souvenirs rather than imported ones. Among edibles: sfogliatella (a flaky pastry with ricotta) and babà (a rum-soaked cake) are better bought to go from a local pasticceria than from a café with a view of the bay — the price difference is significant.
