Chisinau to Yerevan tickets: a direct flight every day

Yerevan is on UTC+4: in summer it is one hour ahead of Chisinau, and once Moldova switches to winter time the difference becomes two hours. Do you need a passport and visa for Armenia?

Moldovan citizens do not need a visa and can stay in the country for up to 180 days. You travel on your passport, which must be valid for the entire trip. Border officers may ask for a return ticket and accommodation booking, so keep them on your phone.

From Zvartnots Airport to central Yerevan: what it costs

Zvartnots Airport (EVN) is about 12 km west of the centre. It is named after the 7th-century cathedral whose ruins stand beside the road to Etchmiadzin. There is only one terminal, so it is hard to get lost.

It is handy to change a little money for the bus at the airport, but the main amount is better exchanged in town, or simply pay by card: cards are accepted almost everywhere in Yerevan.

What to bring back from Yerevan to Chisinau

The classic food gift from Armenia is brandy, and it makes more sense to buy it in the producers' own brand shops than from roadside kiosks. Flying into Moldova, you can bring in duty-free 1 litre of drinks over 22% or 2 litres of weaker drinks, or a combination of the two, plus other goods worth €430 per person.

Popular food buys include dried fruit, dried apricots, sujukh (walnuts coated in thickened grape juice) and gata pastry. You will find them all at the city's food markets, where you can taste before you buy. For non-food souvenirs, go to the Vernissage, an open-air market near Republic Square: carpets, ceramics, embossed metalwork and jewellery. It has the most stalls at weekends.
