From Nice airport to the centre for €1.70

Nice Côte d'Azur Airport sits right on the coast, and tram line 2 runs from the terminals into the centre along the Promenade des Anglais to Port Lympia. Travel between Terminals 1 and 2 and the Grand Arénas stop is free.

An easy way to avoid overpaying: download the Lignes d'Azur app while still in Chisinau and buy your ride there. That way you won't need the €10 L'Aéro ticket at the airport. When flying back from Nice, make sure you take line 2, not line 3: line 3 also goes to the airport, but via Saint-Isidore.

France is visa-free for Moldovan citizens: a biometric passport, up to 90 days within 180. Since 2026, the EES system has been fully operational at the Schengen border, so your fingerprints and photo will be taken on first entry. There is nothing to pay for ETIAS yet, as the system has not launched.

What to take home from the Côte d'Azur

The liveliest market in town is Cours Saleya in the Old Town, with flowers and produce in the mornings. On Mondays it is replaced by a flea market with antiques. Edible buys worth looking for include local olive oil, candied fruit and anything lemony from nearby Menton. The perfume town of Grasse is an hour away, and its fragrances are sold in brand stores in Nice.

When returning to Chisinau by air, the duty-free allowance is €430 per person. For alcohol: 1 litre over 22% or 2 litres of wine and other drinks up to 22%.

The currency is the euro, and cards are accepted everywhere. Restaurants here are more expensive than in Riga or Parma: dinner for two costs about €15-20 more on average.

February: the most colourful month to fly to Nice

The Côte d'Azur is quiet in winter, but in February 2027 two big festivals come together. The Nice Carnival takes place from 9 to 28 February on Place Masséna, with the theme "Vive l'Amour". And in Menton, the 93rd Lemon Festival runs from 14 to 28 February 2027: daytime parades of floats made from lemons and oranges will take place on Sundays 14, 21 and 28 February from 14:30 to 16:00. Grandstand tickets in Menton cost €8 to €30 depending on the category, and the organisers advise arriving an hour and a half early.
