Flights from Switzerland to Chisinau

Direct flight from Chisinau to Geneva: FlyOne's seasonal route

Geneva joined the FlyOne network in summer 2026: the first direct flight from Chisinau took off on 4 June, with two flights a week on Thursdays and Sundays. This is a seasonal route. According to published schedules, the next season starts on 28 March 2027, and you can already book Chisinau to Geneva tickets for spring and summer, with fares from €64. The flight takes about three hours, and Switzerland is one hour behind Moldova.

There is no direct flight in autumn and winter, leaving only connecting options to Geneva. If your trip is tied to a specific date, check the calendar on this page first and plan your holiday afterwards.

Do you need a visa for Switzerland?

Switzerland is not in the European Union but is part of Schengen, so the usual visa-free rules apply to Moldovan citizens: a biometric passport, up to 90 days within any 180. EES is in place at the border, with fingerprints and a photo taken on first entry. ETIAS has not yet been introduced.

From Geneva airport to the centre for free

In Geneva, your airport transfer can cost nothing at all. Before leaving the baggage reclaim area, find the machine and take a free unireso ticket. It is paid for by the airport and is valid for 80 minutes on trains, trams and buses within Geneva.

It gets even easier after that. Guests at hotels, hostels and campsites receive the Geneva Transport Card, which gives free public transport for the whole stay. Without it, a standard one-hour "Tout Genève" ticket costs CHF 3.

Currency and real costs in Geneva

You will be paying in Swiss francs. Judging by café and restaurant prices, this is the most expensive of our European destinations. Guide prices from Numbeo for October 2026:

Free transport and supermarket shopping help you save: a bottle of mid-range wine in a shop costs about CHF 10.

What to bring back from Geneva

The obvious answer, Swiss chocolate, really does fit here: local chocolatiers sell it by weight and in boxes, and it travels well as a gift. For vintage finds and unexpected treasures, head to the Plainpalais flea market, which is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The duty-free allowance when returning to Chisinau by air is €430 per person. The watches many people bring back from Geneva easily exceed it, so declare such purchases.

L'Escalade: a festival worth a connecting flight

From 11 to 13 December 2026, Geneva celebrates L'Escalade, commemorating the night of 11-12 December 1602, when the townspeople repelled an attack by the troops of the Duke of Savoy. The Old Town fills with costumed units of the Compagnie de 1602, torches light the streets in the evening, and the highlight is the great historical procession on Sunday. By tradition, the chocolate cauldron, or marmite, filled with marzipan vegetables is smashed by the youngest and oldest members of the family.

There are no direct flights in December, so getting to L'Escalade means a connection. If you prefer to fly non-stop, choose spring or summer 2027, when FlyOne resumes the direct Chisinau to Geneva flight.
