Larnaca as a flight destination

Larnaca stands on the site of ancient Kition, a settlement documented archaeologically for more than four thousand years, and its modern centre sits between the seafront and a salt lake at the edge of town. Between November and March, the lake becomes a stopover for greater flamingos and other migratory birds.

Getting to town

The airport sits about 4 km southwest of the city. The bus stop toward town is on the departures level, and several routes run to the central bus station and the Finikoudes promenade area, with tickets bought directly from the driver - buses in Cyprus don't accept card payments. Taxis wait around the clock outside the terminal at fixed, posted fares, and the ride into town takes about 15 minutes, with separate day and night rates.

About the city

Larnaca is one of Cyprus's oldest continuously inhabited cities, built over the ancient settlement of Kition. Today it's a port city on the island's southeastern coast with its own international airport, making it the main entry point for most commercial flights to Cyprus.

The Larnaca Archaeological Museum holds finds from the Kition excavations, from Mycenaean pottery to Phoenician artefacts, evidence of the city's long trading history.
