Flights from Ireland to Chisinau

Important before buying a ticket: Ireland requires a visa

Unlike Spain, Italy or Hungary, Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, and the visa-free regime that citizens of Moldova have enjoyed in EU countries since 2014 does not apply to it. The official European Union portal states clearly: the visa-free regime applies in all EU member states except Ireland.

This means a separate Irish category C visa (short-stay, tourist or business) is needed for the trip. Documents can be submitted and the fee paid right in Chisinau, at Ireland's honorary consulate, so there's no need to travel to Bucharest or another country for this. The consular fee is usually around €60, the official processing time is from 10 working days, but in practice it's worth allowing several weeks for preparation, so it's better to apply for the visa as soon as you've settled on flight dates rather than buying the ticket at the last minute.

Direct flights Chisinau - Dublin: three airlines

The route is served by FlyOne, SkyUp and HiSky, each of which operates direct, nonstop flights. Flight time: about 3 hours 40 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the flight and wind direction. The schedule of all three changes by season, it's more convenient to check the current days and departure times in the search form at the top of the page.

When tickets are cheapest: from €69

The price calendar shows it's cheapest to fly in November (from €69). After that the price rises quite sharply: already €72 in December, and by spring and summer it holds around €88-112. August is a clear outlier (€294.5): most likely a one-off spike in demand rather than a stable pattern, so when planning a summer trip it's worth checking the current price calendar above first rather than relying solely on this figure.

Since the visa is obtained in advance rather than at the airport, a trip to Dublin has a distinct planning rhythm: first settle on your dates and apply for the visa, and only then does it make sense to lock in the ticket, so you don't end up in a situation where the visa isn't ready yet but a non-refundable fare has already been bought.

How to get from Dublin airport to the city

Dublin airport has no direct rail link to the city, making it the only major European airport among all the routes covered here that can only be reached by bus or taxi.

TransportTravel timeCostDetails
Aircoach (route 700)about 30-40 minutesabout €6-9 one wayruns around the clock every 15-20 minutes, goes to O'Connell Street in the center
Dublin Express (782/784)about 30-40 minutesabout €9-12similar to Aircoach, also stops at Heuston station

How much money to bring to Dublin

Ireland is about 15-20% more expensive than continental Europe, and Dublin is no exception in this respect: it's one of the most expensive cities to visit among all the destinations covered here.

Budget levelAccommodation (per night)Food (per day)Transport
Budget€25-45 for a bed in a hostel€25-35 (pub menu, simple snacks)a single bus ride from €2 with a Leap card
Mid-range€120-220 for a room in a 3-star hotel€40-60 per personthe same city transit network, occasionally a taxi
Comfortablefrom €300 for a room in a 4-5 star hotelfrom €80 per persontaxis between neighborhoods

What to bring back from Dublin

Irish whiskey, Jameson or Bushmills, costs from €25 at a supermarket, and the airport has a large duty-free shop with rarer varieties and limited editions not found in regular stores. A handmade Aran sweater, knitted from sheep's wool using the traditional technique from Ireland's west coast, will cost €80-200, but it's a genuinely local item rather than a souvenir made elsewhere under an Irish brand.

Among smaller items: the shamrock and harp images, Ireland's main symbols, appear on everything from magnets to textiles and are inexpensive, from €2-5.

When to fly: St. Patrick's Day and other dates

  • March 17, St. Patrick's Day: the country's main holiday, a parade in central Dublin, green everywhere and packed pubs. The official festival usually stretches over several days around this date. Accommodation for these days should be booked well in advance, as it sells out fast.
  • November, the low season: the cheapest time to fly and one of the most affordable for accommodation, the downside being short daylight hours and weather that's an acquired taste.
  • June, Bloomsday (June 16): for literature lovers, the city marks James Joyce's novel "Ulysses" with themed walks and readings at the locations from the book.
