Flights from Spain to Chisinau

Direct flights Chisinau - Barcelona: which airlines fly there

Three airlines fly nonstop from Chisinau to Barcelona at once: FlyOne, Wizz Air and SkyUp. For a Spanish destination this is rare: usually passengers from Moldova have to fly with a connection in Bucharest, Istanbul or Vienna, but here you can get there directly in under 4 hours.

AirlineCarrier typeFlight time (direct flight)What's important to know
FlyOneMoldovan airline, full servicefrom 3h 30mcarry-on is usually included in the ticket, checked baggage is paid separately
Wizz Airlow-costfrom 3h 25mthe basic fare includes only a small under-seat bag, space for a suitcase needs to be bought in advance
SkyUplow-costfrom 3h 55mUkrainian airline, flights operate more actively in the warm season

The schedule of all three carriers changes by season: in winter there are fewer flights, in summer extra days of the week are added. It's more convenient to check the exact dates and departure times in the search form at the top of the page: it immediately shows the current options for the dates you need.

When tickets are cheapest: prices from €42

Judging by the price calendar above, the most cost-effective period for the Chisinau - Barcelona flight is late autumn and winter, from November to March, when a one-way ticket can be found for €42-43. September, on the contrary, is the most expensive month: this is due to the La Mercè festival (more on this below) and the last wave of summer holidays.

The difference between low and high season is noticeable. If you're willing to shift your trip a month or two away from summer, the savings on the ticket are significant. The early-booking rule also applies: the cheapest seats are usually sold out 1.5-2 months before departure, closer to the date only the more expensive fares remain.

How to get from Barcelona airport to the city and how much it costs

Barcelona airport, El Prat, is located about 13 km southwest of the center. You can get into the city in four ways.

TransportTravel timeCostDetails
Aerobus (A1/A2)about 35 minutesabout €6-7.5goes to Plaça de Catalunya, runs every 5-10 minutes, operates almost around the clock
Metro, line L9 Sudabout 30 minutesabout €5-6 (including the airport surcharge)if you're not heading to the airport area, you'll need to change lines
R2 Nord suburban trainabout 25 minutesabout €4-5Passeig de Gràcia and Sants stations, departs only from terminal T2
Taxiabout 20-25 minutesabout €35-40the fare already includes a fixed airport surcharge

The metro and train are convenient if you have little luggage and aren't in a hurry. A taxi makes sense late at night or if you're traveling as a group and splitting the cost.

El Prat airport: what's important to know before arrival

The airport has two terminals: T1 and T2, located at opposite ends of the site. T1 handles most full-service flights, T2 (sectors 2A, 2B, 2C) has traditionally served low-cost carriers, including some Wizz Air flights. A free shuttle runs between the terminals, but the trip takes 10-15 minutes: if you have a connection, factor this time in in advance.

Full airport name: Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas. Both terminals have currency exchange desks, duty-free shops, cafes, luggage storage and free Wi-Fi.

Do you need a visa and a passport to travel to Barcelona

No visa is needed. Since April 28, 2014, citizens of Moldova with a biometric passport can stay in Schengen area countries, including Spain, without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This applies to tourist and business trips; for study or work the rules are different.

A passport is nevertheless mandatory, and specifically a biometric one: a regular Moldovan ID card is not valid for entering Spain. Check that your passport's validity doesn't end earlier than 3 months after your return date — this is the standard requirement of Schengen border control. At the border you may also be asked for a return ticket, a hotel booking and confirmation of sufficient funds for the trip.

How much money to bring to Barcelona

Expenses vary noticeably depending on how you travel.

Budget levelAccommodation (per night)Food (per day)Transport
Budget€25-40 for a bed in a hostel€15-20 (coffee with a croissant for breakfast, a "menu del día" lunch, a simple dinner)a single metro or bus ride is about €2.5, it's cheaper to get a multi-ride pass
Mid-range€90-130 for a room in a 3-star hotel€30-45 per personthe same city transit network, occasionally a taxi
Comfortablefrom €200 for a room in a 4-5 star hotelfrom €60 per persontaxis and transfers instead of public transport

Spain's official currency: euro. You can pay by card almost everywhere, including markets and small cafes, but a bit of cash is useful for vending machines and street food. It's more advantageous to withdraw cash from ATMs rather than exchange bureaus on tourist streets like La Rambla: the rate there is noticeably worse.

What to bring back from Barcelona: markets and shopping

The La Boqueria market on La Rambla, one of the most famous food markets in Europe, is good for buying things to take home: jamón, quality olive oil, spices and nuts travel well and keep for a long time. It's worth coming in the morning, around 10-11 am: fewer tourists and fresher produce.

Among clothing items, look at espadrilles, light handmade summer footwear: in the Gothic Quarter they're still sewn in workshops like La Manual Alpargatera. Cava, Catalan sparkling wine, is also a good gift option: the brands Freixenet and Codorníu are sold at any supermarket cheaper than in specialty wine shops.
