New rules for entering the United Kingdom from February 25, 2026
Starting from 25 February 2026, entry into the United Kingdom will follow updated rules regarding the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). If you are planning a vacation, a family visit, or a business trip, it is essential to check the new requirements in advance.
What is ETA?
The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is a 100% digital document, directly linked to your passport. Printed documents are no longer issued.
ETA is:
- Mandatory for entry into the United Kingdom (for eligible persons)
- Valid for 2 years or until passport expiration
- Allows multiple entries
- Allows stays of up to 6 months per visit
- Applicable for: tourism, visiting family or friends, transit, short-term business trips
How to obtain?
- Applied online, takes about 10 minutes
- Cost: £16
- Response received within 3 days maximum
- The authorization is electronically linked to the passport
What you should know before applying?
- Request ETA before traveling
- Entered data must match exactly the passport information
- Lack of a valid authorization may lead to denied boarding
- Use only official UK platforms to apply: https://www.gov.uk/
Who does NOT need ETA?
- You hold UK residency
- You have a valid UK visa
Recommendation: Plan ahead and carefully check the personal data entered in the application. A correct and timely application ensures a trip without delays or boarding issues.
