New rules for entering the United Kingdom from February 25, 2026

Starting from 25 February 2026, entry into the United Kingdom will follow updated rules regarding the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). If you are planning a vacation, a visit to family, or a business trip, it is essential to check the new requirements in advance.

What is ETA?

The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is a 100% digital document directly linked to your passport. No printed documents are issued.

ETA is:

✔️ Mandatory for entry into the United Kingdom (for eligible individuals)

✔️ Valid for 2 years or until the expiration of your passport

✔️ Allows multiple entries

✔️ Permits stays of up to 6 months per visit

✔️ Applicable for: Tourism, visits to family or friends, transit, short-term business travel

How to obtain it?

Apply online, in approximately 10 minutes

Cost: 16 British pounds (£)

A response is received within a maximum of 3 days

The authorization is electronically linked to your passport

What should you know before applying?

• Apply for the ETA before traveling

• The information entered must exactly match the details in your passport

• Lack of a valid authorization may result in denied boarding

• Use only official UK government platforms to apply: https://www.gov.uk/

Who does NOT need an ETA?

• You hold residency in the United Kingdom

• You have a valid UK visa
