Spectacular Growth in Passenger Traffic at Chișinău International Airport: +45% in July

Chișinău International Airport continues to show impressive growth figures, strengthening its position as the main air hub of the Republic of Moldova. In July 2025, over 703,000 passengers traveled to and from the airport, marking a 45% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data provided by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Also in July, around 5,000 flight operations – landings and takeoffs – were carried out, representing a 37% increase compared to July 2024. These figures reflect not only a strong post-pandemic recovery in air traffic but also a growing demand for international mobility among Moldovan citizens.

Top Destinations: Antalya, Istanbul, London, and Heraklion

Turkish cities continue to dominate the list of most popular destinations. Antalya attracted the most passengers – 156,000, followed by Istanbul with 59,000 passengers. Other popular destinations include London (35,000 passengers) and Heraklion, with 23,000 passengers.

Notably, Heraklion recorded an annual increase of 40.3% in passenger traffic. Meanwhile, Bucharest saw the fastest growth, with a spectacular jump of 88.5%, indicating stronger connections between the two capitals.

A Positive Signal for Moldova’s Aviation Sector

The significant growth in air traffic is an important indicator of economic recovery and increased openness to external markets. Authorities see these numbers as a sign of passengers' trust in airport infrastructure and growing interest in foreign destinations for tourism, business, and family visits.

If this trend continues, Chișinău International Airport could surpass previous traffic records in 2025, further establishing itself as a key regional hub in Southeastern Europe.
