Attention: Air traffic suspended in several countries

Following the escalation of the military conflict between Israel, the USA and Iran, the operational situation in the region has changed significantly, directly affecting international air traffic.

1. Which countries have closed their airspace?

At this time, the airspace is completely closed over the following countries:

Iran, Iraq, Israel, Palestine, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan

Part of Syria’s airspace is also closed.

Direct consequence: no commercial flight is taking off, landing, or transiting through the affected area. The duration of this situation is unpredictable and depends entirely on the development of the military context – it may last a few days or a longer period.

2. Cancellations announced by airlines

Several airlines have already communicated temporary suspensions:

Wizz Air – suspension announced for 7 days

TAROM – cancellations until March 2

It is very likely that other airlines will update their flight schedules depending on how the situation evolves.

3. What should you do if you have a flight in the coming days?

Constantly check your email (including Spam/Promotions).

Failure to show up for the flight (NO-SHOW) may result in losing the right to rebooking or refund.

4. If you are already in transit

In airports such as Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi: Affected passengers will be redirected to hotels, subject to availability. It is important to remain patient but stay proactive in communication with airline staff. The number of affected passengers is very high.

If you are at another departure point (e.g., Bangkok – transit via Doha): You are entitled to request:

accommodation, meals, rebooking, or ticket refund.

5. Passenger rights

In this context, this is considered force majeure; therefore, compensation under EU Regulation EC 261/2004 does not apply.

However, you are entitled to:

  • assistance (hotel and meals),
  • re-routing to your final destination,
  • or ticket refund.

Please note: the applicability of these rules depends on the legislation of the country where the airline is registered.

6. Alternatives for urgent return home

If you are not in the Persian Gulf or Israel–Jordan area, one option is:

requesting a refund, purchasing a new ticket on alternative routes operated by European airlines.

These will avoid the conflict zone, using northern routes (India – Pakistan – Turkmenistan – Caspian Sea – Azerbaijan – Georgia) or southern ones (Oman – Saudi Arabia – Egypt – Mediterranean Sea).

7. Overland options (for those in the Gulf area)

For passengers stranded in the region, one possible solution may be overland travel to Saudi Arabia or Egypt, but please consider:

journeys of 20–30+ hours, checking the border situation, difficult logistical conditions.

These options are recommended only in cases of absolute urgency.

The situation is dynamic and may change rapidly. The Zbor.md team continuously monitors official updates and remains available to passengers for informational support.

We wish you a safe arrival at your destination and wise decisions according to the circumstances.
